It is time for appraisal
Hello friend.
It is that time of the year that activities both individual and others are winding down. It is the last month of the year and it is the time that individuals and organizations are counting their gains as well as their losses and where ever the pendulum swings to determines whether the year would be adjudged good or bad.
In view of the above fact, I am writing this to remind you or draw your attention to what you already know or need to know and that is appraising yourself.
Appraisal simply means examination or stock taking. It is so important because it helps you know how far you have come in the year as it regards the goals you set.
However, my approach to this subject is not from the standpoint of doing it as a routine (that is something individuals and organizations do regularly) but from the standpoint of being deliberate about it and connecting it with your journey to success. Also, this is not to make anyone feel bad due to under achievement, but pointing out areas that need adjustment and building upon what has been achieved so far.
As the year draws to a close, it is time to pause and take stock of how far you have gone in the year. The thought of the year coming to a close may seem frightening to some of you due to achievements below expectations, so do me a favour, close your eyes and take a deep breathe in and breathe out. Thank you for doing that, so let's continue..
Why is it important to do appraisal?
It helps you know if any progress has been made so far in the course of the year.
It helps you measure the progress you have made compared to your destination (which are the goals you set).
It helps you know areas you did well and where you are lagging behind and need help.
Among other benefits, self appraisal is very important and its benefits are too numerous to mention provided you are deliberate about it.
I believe so many of us had goals written down in our notes or on our minds at the beginning of the year to achieve and so it is time to revisit them and see how far we have honestly gone. Taking stock also help you check if you are still on track or not.
Let me reiterate once again that whatever the result of the appraisal especially if it is to the negative, it should not make you feel less important or a failure, rather it is to help you revisit your strategy and fine tune them where necessary to turn your failures to success.
You may be asking, when should I appraise myself or my organization, the time I will suggest is now as waiting till the end of the year maybe a bit too late for you to do so. I will encourage you to take out time out of your busy schedule this week and do it, so that you will come up with results that will help you make informed decisions when planning for the coming year.
As for you who don't any goal you are working with, I encourage you to start setting goals henceforth because nothing worthwhile happen to anyone by accident. Success is gotten by deliberate efforts and that includes setting goals and making plans to achieve them.
As I conclude, how far have you gone with those goals? It is time to be deliberate about your life, it is time to take stock. Do not do it as a matter of routine, be deliberate about your life.
Appraise yourself today and you would be glad you did.
Happy stock taking.
Thank you for your time and have a great month ahead.
